I had to do a little medical research for a book I’m working on, and so emailed a doctor friend with my question. Rather than repeat what I said, I’ll copy the email in here. (Names will be changed to protect identities):

Subject: Medical question

Hi Lou
I’m doing research for a book, and I need medical knowledge. Can you help? Please?

A healthy adult male is in a motorbike accident, and uses his arms to break his fall as he comes off his bike. He breaks his arm in two places (up to you to decide where).
The breaks are severe enough to need pins. Post operatively, would he wear a cast or a bandage? How long would said cast or bandage remain on, and would the pins need to be removed or would they stay in his arm permanently?

Thanx for any info. I thought I had it all nailed but I just wanna make sure.

So, when I woke up this morning, I found a prompt response to my question. What do you think of the answer?

Hi Jess,

Louise is at a conference and will be back later. In the mean time I can answer the question for you.

He can still get an erection with two broken arms! Problem is that he would need help as he would not be able to relieve himself for at least a 6 week period. I am not trying to influence your story line, but maybe a male nurse could add a twist to the plot.
