10. The Liard Hotsprings are beautiful, natural hotsprings with a little man-made boardwalk/decking to minimize the continued impact.

9. The entire Yukon’s population is 30,000. Whitehorse’s population takes up 25,000.

8. Haines Junction is in Canada and is the corner you turn on the Alaskan Highway to get to Alaska (hang a right). Or, go straight, over the pass and down to the Ocean into Alaska to find Haines. Two different towns.

7. Skagway and Dyea were two of the favorite routes to the Yukon Gold Rush. Skagway was for the richer prospector since you had to hire horses. Dyea lead to the Chilkoot trail where men and women carried all their supplies on their back in exhausting repetitive trips. (2 tonnes as required by the RCMP)

6. En-route to Carmacks you pass Braeburn and the shop that serves the ‘Biggest Cinnamon Buns in the World.

5. The Yukon River can be paddled from Whitehorse to Dawson City in an easy 2 week trip. Or you can race it in 3 days in the annual ‘Yukon Quest’ held every June.

4. Most of the dangerous rapids on the Yukon river are gone since the hydro electric dam was built by Whitehorse. Now sweepers (fallen trees hanging over the river) and sand bars are the most dangerous hazards.

3. As they’ve remodeled and updated Dawson City the developers have been careful to check for gold dust that settled through the old floorboards into the dirt under the hotels/bars etc.

2. The tombstone mountains are located along the Dempster Highway. This road ends at the Arctic Ocean
